Labor Protection

The production of garbage is intrinsically tied to Kazaneft LLP’s economic activities. Within the Company, waste management is managed in compliance with international standards, Republic of Kazakhstan environmental legislation, and internal regulatory documents that are accepted at the affiliate and subsidiary levels. Waste management is subject to more stringent regulations as part of the Republic of Kazakhstan’s shift to the new Environmental Code, which went into effect on July 1, 2021.

The group of companies of Kazaneft LLP takes on the responsibility of periodically reviewing opportunities to reduce the volume and/or polluting capacity of hazardous and other wastes, given the growing threat these wastes pose to human health and the environment. The management of the Kazaneft LLP group of companies is in charge of carrying out the waste management program, which aims to minimize the production and consumption of hazardous and other wastes and reduce their negative environmental impact. It also oversees the achievement of the program’s objectives in the areas of waste reduction, timely analysis of its implementation, and revision.

Employee safety is a top issue for Kazaneft LLP. Using technical instruments for safe work performance is the primary goal of labor protection. Occupational safety is prevented, according to the “Occupational Health and Safety Management System” (OHSMS).

The main functions of the System are:
  • definition of a uniform procedure for preparation and implementation of decisions on execution of organizational, technical, sanitary and preventive measures aimed at ensuring of safe and healthy working conditions;
  • planning of works on Occupational Safety and Health;
  • accounting, analysis and evaluation of the Occupational Safety and Health state.
  • The main tasks of the System are:
  • control over compliance with the Republic of Kazakhstan Labor legislation by employees with regard to Occupational Safety and Health;
  • certification of workplaces on working conditions with development of an action plan related to the improvement and enhancement of working conditions;
  • training of employees on safe methods of work and the promotion of Occupational Safety and Health;
  • production equipment safety ensuring;
  • production processes safety ensuring;
  • normalization of sanitary and hygienic labor conditions;
  • provision of employees with personal protective equipment;
  • ensuring of optimal schedule of work and rest for workers;
  • In addition to adhering to national and international safety rules, the refinery set out to follow international standards. The enterprise’s Integrated Management System was finally certified by Kazaneft LLP through a conformity examination in accordance with the following international standards: ISO 50001:2011, ISO 9001:2008, SA8000:2008, ISO 14001:2004, OHSAS 18001:2007, and ISO 14001:2004 (Quality Management System, Environmental Management System, and Occupational Health and Safety Management System). It was carried out the identification and evaluation of hazards, developed measures to reduce significant risks, in order to increase the effectiveness of prevention of accidents, industrial injuries of workers on the enterprise. Additionally, Kazaneft LLP occupational safety management system is now imposing special requirements on contractors to ensure that safety regulations are being followed.
